From May 26th to 30th, at the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Tourism "Dr. Mijo Mirković", a successful Cross-border Exchange Camp was held as part of the project TESTEAT – “Enhance enogasTronomy hEritage to eSTablish and Expand sustainAble Tourism”, implemented within the Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme.

The camp gathered 30 students and 4 professors from the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Its main goal was to strengthen mutual cooperation, exchange knowledge and experiences, and develop new ideas and approaches in the field of sustainable tourism and eno-gastronomy.

During the multi-day programme, students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including interactive lectures, thematic workshops, teamwork, and study visits to local producers and companies operating in the tourism and food industries.
This kind of cooperation enriched students' experience, encouraged critical thinking, and opened space for future joint projects and initiatives.

Cultural and Educational Programme:

As part of the camp, a rich cultural and educational programme was organized:

Students and professors had the chance to explore the historic core of Pula through a guided tour of the city, with special emphasis on key symbols of local heritage such as the Arena, the Forum, the Temple of Augustus, and other important landmarks.

A study visit to Morosini-Grimani Castle in Svetvinčenat was also organized, where students took part in the interactive "Escape the Castle" game. Through this activity and guided exploration, participants gained insight into the potential of creatively repurposing cultural sites into attractive tourist content.

One of the highlights of the camp was the visit to the Agency for Rural Development of Istria (AZRRI) – which is also the Lead Partner of the project. Students learned about the Agency’s work in preserving and promoting indigenous food products and the role of local gastronomy in the sustainable development of rural areas. Through presentations and exchanges with AZRRI experts, students acquired valuable knowledge on the interconnection between agriculture, gastronomy, and tourism.

To conclude the programme, participants enjoyed a guided eno-gastronomic tasting session at Medea Winery, where they had the chance to sample local products and learn about the wine production process and the concept of wine tourism.
This experience rounded off the camp’s focus on valorising local eno-gastronomic heritage as part of a sustainable and authentic tourism offering.

These activities not only deepen young people's understanding of important social and economic topics, but also encourage cross-border cooperation, cultural exchange, and networking among students and professors in a field of great importance for the future of tourism in the region.
