The library was established in 1960, simultaneously with the founding of the Higher School of Economics “Dr. Mijo Mirković” in Pula. Initially very small, with only the most essential copies of professional literature mainly intended for teaching staff, it gradually developed into a library whose collection meets the needs of both faculty and students.
The library’s spatial conditions were significantly improved in early 2008 when it moved into the premises of the new building of the Faculty of Economics and Tourism “Dr. Mijo Mirković.” In this modernly equipped space, users have access to around ten computers, primarily used for writing seminar and thesis papers and for searching global online databases, among which the most relevant for economic studies include Ebsco, Emerald, Science Direct, ProQuest, and others. In addition to the computer area, the library also includes a separate reading room where users mainly stay for studying.
Today, the library collection includes 10,750 book titles. A significant part of the collection also consists of scientific and professional journals. The library subscribes to 200 domestic and international periodicals, 60% of which are foreign serial publications from renowned global publishers. A special part of the collection includes undergraduate theses, as well as master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. The library updates its collection through purchases, exchanges, and donations. Notable donations come as a result of long-standing cooperation with Rollins College, Crummer Graduate School of Business in Orlando, USA. Recently, the collection has been enriched with books intended for doctoral studies.
The library directly supports the educational and scientific research activities of the Faculty, and its acquisition, processing, and circulation of books, journals, and other materials are tailored to approximately 1,700 users from the Faculty of Economics and Tourism “Dr. Mijo Mirković.” In addition to faculty users, the library is also open to interested researchers and students from other departments of Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, as well as to the wider community.
The library continuously develops and improves interlibrary exchange and lending both nationally and internationally. Interlibrary cooperation includes the exchange of professional books and journals, as well as the exchange of information, with the aim of advancing librarianship, introducing new media into library operations, and enabling faster access to professional and scientific information.
